While serving, many women try hard to just fit in, be a good team mate, and not stand out as women. Rear Admiral (retired) Sandy Adams’ short history lesson was woven with personal stories and cultural context, reminding us that we must all honor and take pride in those women upon whose shoulders we stand.

Listen or watch here to help recognize what we’ve already achieved, and be inspired to learn more, so our service men and women can fully serve side by side as brothers and sisters in arms.

Be ready for a little giddy-up intro kick off — the Admiral’s walk-up song was “Sing a Song” by Earth, Wind, and Fire!

As ALWAYS with this community, the conversation brought this topic close to home and to our hearts. Our breakout question was “How are we ‘better’ as a nation for having achieved these milestones? What challenges remain?”

The personal and professional answers to that question reminded ME of the importance of asking this question, and digging in, as I, too, am inclined to not want to “stand out” as a woman who serves. Admiral Adams encouraged all women who serve or who have served to register at the Women’s Military Memorial here:https://womensmemorial.org

Lean On, Friends!
